Celltrion Healthcare Inc. planted the oncology flag in biosimilars with the European Commission's approval of Truxima, a biosimilar to Rituxan (rituximab, Roche Holding AG/Biogen Inc.), and the compound will provide estimated health care savings across the 28 countries of the EU of about €570 million (US$602 million) over a three-year period.

셀트리온헬스케어는 리툭산의 바이오시밀러인 트룩시마에 대한 유럽집행위원회의 승인을 받아 최초의 항암바이오시밀러 깃발을 꽂았으며 EU 28개국에서 3년동안 약 5억 7천만 달러 (미화 6억 2천만 달러)의 비용절감이 예상된다.

The company could not be reached, but László Gulácsi, head of the department of health economics at Corvinus University of Budapest, went on record about the EU cost benefit, based on the price of Truxima at 70 percent of Rituxan (known as Mabthera outside the U.S.) and on market share for the biosimilar of 30 percent the first year, 40 percent the second and 50 percent the third.

Patients received cyclophosphamide, vincristine and prednisone along with reference product or GP2013. The final results of the study are expected next year. The EMA accepted the marketing authorization application in May of last year.
